Full Description:

Father Involvement Study (POPS – Positive Opportunities for Parenting Success) Support and encouragement for Fathers to become and remain actively involved in their children’s lives. Participating parents must be 18 years or older, expecting a child or the biological father of at least one child under 8 years of age. The family must be co-parenting children together and both parents must agree to participate. Meet with Family Advocates 3 times over a period of 18 months to complete paid data collection. (One and one half hours) Dinner and childcare is provided each week to program participants. Families involved in this project will receive ONE of the following: • Half-day informational workshop about father involvement, which will include information about other resources in the community. • 32 hour program involving 12 weekly “Father only” group sessions on parenting, relationships and health. • 32 hour program involving 12 weekly group sessions on parenting, relationships and health for both the mother and father.
